We’re so lucky to live in a time where interior design inspiration is so easy to come by yet sometimes it feels a little like there are too many places to look, especially if you’re looking for a certain design style (usually industrial or rustic if you’re anything like me). Here’s a little round up of my top sources of inspiration for creating a home with upcycled elements:
Whether paperback or E Mags, magazines with shopping guides and detailed house tours are still a huge part of inspiring interior design projects but the ultimate reason why I love magazines is because they give you the latest designs and products making it easy to source and buy – one of the main problems I have with online design inspo (especially social media) is that images can be years old, meaning that lamp you fall instantly in love with is no longer in production. My must read mags are Living Etc, Elle Decoration and Reclaim, all full of beautiful imagery of real homes and the latest new design products.
Great for a short but perfectly formed read which usually includes amazing imagery and lots more honesty than a magazine would share. I always have a quick read of my favourite design blogs to motivate me first thing in the morning (for me it works better than meditation or yoga – whatever works for you right?). The blogs that always get opened first when they appear in my inbox are currently My Warehouse Home and Upcyclist.
One of the best ways to spend a sunday is curled up on the sofa with bottomless cups of tea and a good interiors book, don’t you think? It’s great escapism, especially if you can bring yourself to switch your phone off too (which I have to admit to not being able to do everytime). Purchasing the hardback edition with a great cover means the book doubles up as a styling home accessory too…win win! There’s more on my love of books in interior design here. My go to interior inspiration books are, Abigail Ahern Colour, Modern Rustic and Etcetera.
The perfect way to loose a whole afternoon unplanned right? Pinterest is a great inspiration source both for full design scheme inspiration and individual DIY projects. I don’t know about you but I seem to find the style I’m looking for on Pinterest much easier than on other platforms such as Instagram or Houzz. This kitchen is probably my dream and I only know that thanks to Pinterest showing me it.
Anyone else feel seriously inspired to add some mid century touches to your home after binge watching a series of Mad Men on a Saturday night? Or feel the need to change up your artwork and gallery walls after watching a couple of episodes of Gossip Girl? There’s always lots of design documentaries to watch if you fancy a little lazy inspo on an evening, my current watch is Abstract: The art of design.
So there you have my top 5 sources of design inspiration when I need a little boost, where do you find your inspiration for your home decor?
